Removing old Coatings and coverings
The safe and proper removal of existing coatings or coverings from your floor prior to applying the correct epoxy or puyurethane floor is important. Not all coatings need to be removed, depending of the type of epoxy coating that you have chosen, but all previous coatings will need to be prepared in some way before the application of addditional coats. If the coating does need to be removed there are a number of ways it is done. Shotblasting and diamond grinding are the two main methods of removing existing coatings from floors. If there has been as existing floor covering such as carpet or vinyl then, shot blasting and diamond grinding may also be used to remove remaining adhesive layers that remain after the removal of the covering itself. The coverings will usually be removed by a scraping, either by hand or with the assitance of mechanical or air powered tools.
