Cleaning, Degreasing and Preparing new and old concrete floors
Prior to the application of Epoxy coatings to Industrial floors it is important that the substrate is clean and properly prepared. The Painting People Epoxy Flooring Division are specialists in this type and work and have many years experience with a range of different flooring concepts.
The first step in cleaning a floor is degreasing. Even if Shotblasting, Diamond Grinding or other machanical means of preparation are to be used, the early removal of any greasy contamination is vital to the success of the preparation and ultimately the adhesion and longevity of the applied epoxy coatings.
If you concrete slab is old and pitted then shotblasting is the best method of preparation. The reason is that as the shotblaster is firing pellets at the floor, these pellets will strike all areas of the floor regardless if it is level or pitted. On the other hand, a method like diamond grinding works best on a a floor that is level as during this method of preparaion the diamond plates of the grinder will spin on the surface, skimming over and missing any divots, pitting or low spots in the floor. As shotbalsting can be an intrusive process, on some old slabs that are already very porous a degrease and hot wash, combines with a diamond grind can be sufficient preparation and the pressure cleaning process will signifactly prepare the low spots, divot and pitting of the floor.
