The Painting PeopleJohn Crimston began his Painting and Decorating apprenticeship in 1960 at Ultimo Tafe in Sydney while working for Ernie and Ron Benjamin. In 1969 shortly after marrying, John left the Benjamin Brothers and began working for Arthur Higman in Parramatta. In October of 1971, after the birth of his first child John decided it was time to begin working for himself and left Arthur Higman to start John S Crimston Painting and Decorating.

Johns first customer was Joe Napoli at St Ives, and for the next 30 years John painted many hundreds of homes around the lower north shore of Sydney, mostly on his own but occasionally with help. Over the years John trained two apprectices, and his eldest Son Andrew.

In 1999 Andrew joined the business, and in anticipation of Johns retirement changed the name to The Painting People, diversified the business into commercial and industrial painting services and built a franchise system around Johns quality and service model that served him so well.

The company now carries out work in every state and territory in Australia through agents and franchisees.

We have franchisees that specialise in the various markets that make up the Painting and Decorating industry, and each one is an owner operator with their own staff.

John is now retired and Andrew as well as being a franchisee in Sydney, also owns and operates as the franchisor with his business partners Alexander Bailey and Peter Kaye.
